  • Foundation approved nonprofit legal aid organizations.
  • Courts in Arizona

Tiered structure

Awarded to: The organization/court whose work best demonstrates transformative impact in technology for advancing access to justice.

  • For the top prize of $10K, the entity must demonstrate all three of the following criterion.
  • For the $5k award, the entity must demonstrate two out of the three.
  • And for the two $2.5K awardees they must demonstrate at least one of the following criterion.

A technology project within the entity that demonstrates the following:

  1. Utilize technology to improve the efficiency of the organization or court.
  2. Technology project to improve the experience for the public and/or increase the knowledge of the public in understanding the law and/or court processes.
  3. Technology project to increase the outreach and potential to increase the number of people served.

The Thumma Technology for Justice Award honors organizations/courts that demonstrate exceptional vision, leadership, and measurable impact in advancing technology to improve access to justice, legal education, and the delivery of legal services. This award recognizes forward-thinking institutions whose work empowers individuals, strengthens communities, and reimagines the legal system through technology.

Award Description

The Thumma Technology for Justice Award carries a monetary award, state recognition, and as a model for others to follow. The award includes:

  • Monetary Award For 2026, one $10k, one $5K and two $2,500.
  • Recognition: A certificate to be displayed at the award winner’s location.
  • Publication: A feature in the Foundation Website and social media, showcasing the recipient’s contributions as a model for others.

Submission Materials

Each nomination package should include:

  1. Organization/Court Information: basic organizational/court details, leadership contacts.
  2. Project Description: purpose, technology used, problem addressed, target audience.
  3. Impact Evidence: data, case studies, or testimonials demonstrating measurable outcomes.
  4. Optional Materials: videos, prototypes, press coverage, or user feedback.

Applications must be submitted by July 31st.
