RAPID RESPONSE:
What: On call attorney for the day for quick information, emergency immigration consultations, and/or initial appearances in criminal court.
Who: Immigration & criminal defense attorneys in Phoenix area
When: ASAP, for 3.5 months (end June - Sept. 30 or Sept. 15-Dec. 31)
Ask: Choose one day a week that you can be an on-call attorney of the day (you won't be the only one). During this day, you may be contacted for quick advice from an organizer and/or to see if you have capacity to take on an emergency consultation (immigration) or initial appearance (criminal). Ideally you would take this on pro bono or low bono (with opportunity to charge a regular fee full representation if the person wants to continue with you).
Technology: Must be willing to use Signal app.
LEGAL CLINIC:
What: Weekly Thursday evening (330-730 pm) free, pro se community clinic for individuals we meet through Phoenix Rapid Response and/or facing deportation.
Who: All attorneys, DOJ reps, paralegals, legal assistants etc - especially need bilingual English/Spanish speakers - in person in Phoenix area. Option for REMOTE opportunity for experienced immigration attorneys to be on call for questions.
When: 1-2 Thursdays a month between July 31st and October or end of year.
Ask: Commit to staffing the clinics at least 1x a month during your commitment period (3 or 5 months) and ideally two times a month if possible.
Technology: Ideally will be able to bring laptop to use during the clinic.
PRO BONO CASEWORK:
Who: Immigration & criminal defense attorneys.
When: Asap until the end of the year
Ask: Take on one pro bono immigration or criminal case during the next six months. Case to be identified for pro bono placement by legal clinic and/or rapid response attorney.
